We have misunderstood religion.
Religion is not a specific faith, such as Hinduism, Christianity, or Islam.
What is the common perception?
Religion is a complex system of beliefs, practices, and cultural systems relating humanity to the sacred, spiritual, or divine, often involving worship, rituals, moral codes, and a sense of ultimate purpose, though definitions vary and encompass everything from organized faiths like Christianity or Islam to indigenous traditions and secular worldviews. It provides meaning, community, and guidance, influencing identity and behavior through shared values, scriptures, and practices like prayer or meditation, with major world religions including Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Judaism.
What exactly is Religion?
The word Religion comes from the Latin word religio which consists of two words, viz., re (back) and ligare (to bring or bind). That which binds the soul back to God is religion.
