Rishikesh is a city situated in the foothills of the Himalayas on the banks of the Ganges River in the northern state of Uttarakhand, India. River Ganga is considered sacred, Rishikesh is the city of sages and the city is famous as a center for the study of yoga and meditation. Temples and ashrams (centres for spiritual studies) are located on the east coast around Swarga Ashram.
